After I explained my idea to him he told me he wanted to know what happened in Roswell. Here’s my take (jokingly or course). The aliens wanted a vacation to earth, so they send a weather balloon. They miscalculated something so the balloon popped and fell to earth and landed in Roswell, NM. They decided to cancel the vacation here because of insufficient data. That’s why we haven’t made contact with aliens.

Joking aside, I do have an idea to make a realistic UFO. It’s just an idea I toyed with for an hour.

Pay attention. About 46 seconds in, the copter makes a sideways slide, then flies straight up.

That got me thinking about UFO movement that people have reported, so I thought of an idea on how to play a joke on UFO enthusiasts.

You take some perforated material and make a UFO shaped shell. Preferably something light. The perforations would be to cut down on wind resistance that the shell will cause. You have to leave spots open for each propeller. You then put a bright omnidirectional light inside so the light shows through the holes in the perforated material.

All that is left now is to fly it at night. From a distance the propeller sound shouldn’t be heard. All they should see is a strange light that is doing unnatural flying in the sky.

A geomagnetic reversal is a change in the orientation of Earth’s magnetic field such that the positions of magnetic north and magnetic south become interchanged. These events often involve an extended decline in field strength followed by a rapid recovery after the new orientation has been established. These events occur on a scale of tens of thousands of years or longer.

I recently came across an article saying the North pole is moving towards Siberia at 37 miles per year. If Wikipedia is correct, it should be moving much slower than that.

I was watching TV the other day and they compared the recent earthquake in Haiti with the earthquake that caused the big tsunami in 2004.

My mind being overactive, got me thinking. What if, the north pole moving is causing stress in some of the fault lines and causing these earthquakes. I know I’m not a scientist and I don’t know much about geology, but it’s something to think about. I mean, some rocks are attracted to magnetic fields because of the iron in them.

I wonder if we wont start seeing many more of these huge earthquakes in the coming years.

That’s just how my brain works.

When I first posted my post about the full moon affecting peoples behavior, I never expected it to be the most popular post on the blog. It seems that once a month around the full moon I see a HUGE spike in traffic.

Reading the comments that are posted on the post I see lots of people that have trouble sleeping around the full moon. That is something that happens to me when it’s full. I know it has nothing to do with the extra light that comes in the windows around the time. I have blinds that block out most of the light when it’s full.

Other Things I’ve noticed range from mundane to plain odd. Lots of people are or know someone who is irritable around the full moon. Some comments said that they are more aggressive in bed. (I had to delete them because they contained some graphic sexual content. I gotta keep this blog PG ya know.) One woman also said her period follows the full moon.

My mom even told me that she talked to someone that worked in a mental hospital and asked him if more “loonies” come in on a full moon. He told her it’s like any other night. The next full moon they had more admitted than on a normal week.

There’s something to think about here.

Well first up, I got a promotion yesterday at work. I have mixed feelings about this. I am happy I got the promotion because it means more money and hours. But the supervisor we had had to get demoted for it to happen. I feel bad about that. He had one bad day and had to pay for it. Apparently he had a few mistakes I didn’t know about. A supervisor in Miami got fired for mistakes, so I guess demotion is better. I need to be careful to not make those mistakes.

A couple weeks ago, my step-mom was murdered. Supposedly she was to retire in January and my dad and her were going to retire out here in Tucson. Now as soon as the life insurance goes through to cover the funeral and burial my dad will move down here were 2 out of the 3 of us kids are.

About the blog, I’m planning on posting more content on a more regular basis. I’m going to try to post something at least once a week. I have some ideas about revisiting the most popular post on the site. My post about the full moon causing strange behavior seems to get a huge spike of traffic every (Yep! You guessed it!) full moon.

Also, I’m currently working on a new blog theme that comes complete with a new look for both the about me page and the homepage. I based the homepage on the theme I did for the Gatecast Podcast site. That’s another project I need to get involved with again, the show was my idea and I was one of the original hosts.

I was going through old pictures on the memory card I had in my camera and came across this gem I took almost a year ago.

That sign was up for over a week and nobody at the school noticed the misspelling? That is pretty sad. I guess that shows the quality of school in this country.

He updated the software on his phone and lost everything including his apps he bought from the app store.

I guess that’s why I don’t own a device that gets updated every time the app that it works with gets updated.

I managed to see the new Dragonlance Movie recently. I have to say, I’m extremely unimpressed. I’m a big Dragonlance Fan. I had high hopes for this movie. The animation looked decent, but they combined traditional animation with 3d rendered animation. Sometimes studios can pull it off. They didn’t with this movie. They should have picked one style and stayed with it. The difference, just seems to take you out of the movie. They need the difference between the two to be subtle.

The voices were good. Flint sounded a little like Yoda though. Lucy Lawless did a good job with Goldmoon. So did Kiefer Sutherland with Raistlin.

Speaking of Raistlin, his eyes didn’t even look like they are supposed to. He is suposed to have hourglass shaped eyes. I expected normal eyes with hourglass shaped pupils. Instead his eyes have no pupils and the iris is hourglass shaped. Also his voice seems too strong for the character. Keifer should have lowered his voice for the parts.

Overall it was a watchable movie and may bring new readers to the Dragonlance Saga, but sadly, I’m not happy with the way it turned out. For a novel adaption, they sure cut alot of story out. One of the highest points was seeing someone I know in the credits of the movie.

First, it’s too expensive for me to live here. I earn $7.50/hr at my job. Here studio apartments start in the $700/mo range. Tucson they are around $350-400 range. Sometimes even less than that.

Second, my friend isn’t the same person he was before he got married. He has become someone I’m not sure I can call my best friend. That and I’ve come to hate his wife. She treats me like garbage. Several times I’ve become so angry that I came very close to attacking her.

Third, I’m very tired of living 15 miles outside of town and having to rely on others to drive me into town. I’m feeling trapped when I have a day off work. At least in Tucson I can hop on a bus and go places to get out of the house.

I’ve gotten a few emails regarding the beta not working on Internet Explorer. I’m aware of that, I just can’t figure out why IE isn’t asking for referrer information from the plugin.

I’ve also received a few emails and blog comments regarding the newest version of Wordpress. I know the plugin isn’t working with it. I haven’t investigated it yet.

Another thing, I received an email from a sysadmin for a hosting company. It appears the plugin is causing some problems.

Joe Murphy, a beloved podcaster, died today of Cancer. He was diagnosed four months ago. He had leiomyosarcoma, a nasty form that is radiation and chemotherapy resistant.

He was a real person where most podcasters are “on air” personalities. I only met him once. It was right after his first surgery where they found the cancer was inoperable. I spent 2 hours on a bus just to get to the other side of town where the hospital was that he was in. I spend only 20 minutes with him then went home. He never knew I was coming.

Since the gravitational effect from the moon controls the tides in the oceans and humans are mostly water (70% or so), is it safe to think that the moon could actually have some effect on us? I know during a full moon I don’t sleep as well as I do when it’s not a full moon.

Just something to think about.

Yesterday, when I went on break I decided I wanted Twinkies for breakfast. I wanted a 4 pack, but they only had the 10 pack box. I figured I’ll just share. So, I’m back there eating a twinkie and a co worker walks by. I ask him if he wants a twinkie and he says no and walks away real fast. A few minutes later he comes by and notices I’m eating a twinkie. He says to me, ‘I thought you asked if I wanted a quickie.’

Today I was talking with someone else and it hit me. I’m glad I wasn’t eating Ding-Dongs.

The RPG I’ve been playing most is Ultima: Exodus. Its the first NES Ultima, but its actually the third in the Ultima series. It was created by Richard Garriot (also known as Lord British) in 1983 on the Apple II. That shows how old it is. I was 3 years old when the game came out. But even though its old, the graphics suck, and the sound is horrid, the game is rock solid. It’s actually the game that got me into RPGs.

Somehow most of the new RPGs don’t interest me like the once did. Maybe its because they dont get your imagination going like the old ones. With all the graphics and sound the new ones have it’s easy to play the game without using your imagination. I guess thats why I still love the old RPGs.

I didn’t get much else for Christmas. Another co worker got me a little Xmas bear figurine.

Can’t you just imagine them sitting in the butchery (is that a word?) and attaching wierd pieces of meat together and then plugging them in to see if they come to life. Sadly they only start smoking and smelling like burnt meat. Then they try to attach a fish head to a chicken body then they plug that in. When the head pops because the current is too much, they just turn down the current and try again with a different fish species. When nothing works, they get back to work with sad looks on their faces. Sorry, not today, maybe tomarrow.

I go to the site Sony setup to handle the recall. I fill out a form and I find out I have one of the faulty adapters. After filling out my mailing address it said the adapter would get back to me in 4-6 weeks. They also said not to use the adapter untill the new one arrives (like I would do that). To make a long story short, I recieved my replacement today. I got it 3-5 weeks earlier than they said to expect it.

Chris Pirillo from the Chris Pirillo Show and LockerGnome has mentioned he doesn’t like Google Talk. He thinks its not breaking any ground in the IM area.

While I do agree to a point, I personally think that Talk is a nice program for being a beta. Thats right, BETA, not the final version. I hope this is the first beta release and not a release candidate. I know they plan to try to get some kind of system that allows people with Talk to communicate others on other IM systems. I hope they can, as it would make the first IM client (correct me if I’m wrong) that works with all of the networks that comes from a large company not just some small developer. I think they should approach the major IM systems with a minimalist approach. I think they should allow only text communication with the other systems and all the bells and whistles with Googles system. They could tell the major IM providers that users wanting all the special features of the providers they should download the providers client. If they want to just chat or share files with their friends they could use Talk.

I like Talk being lean as it is. I only wish it had a file transfer ability. If they could add chat and file transfer from other IM networks and still keep the program lean and fast like it is now, I’d be very happy.

That actually made my day. I feel kinda warm and fuzzy inside.

10:30pm power went out on monday and I was without electricity for 14 hours. It happened from a big storm. Something called a microburst. It took out 15 telephone poles. It left my apartment complex for 14 hours with no electricity. Power went out at about 10:30 pm and went on at about 12:30pm the next day.

I had to be at work at 3am that night. There were a few of us waiting outside the store wth no power because we didn’t wanna be inside the store. When we were sitting there there was an accident on the street. Soon after the assistant manager got to the store and sent me inside to go get milk crates and other containers so we could save the parishable food items and put them into refrigeration trucks. I went back outside and someone told me a cop came by and asked if we saw a person running through with head trauma. He also said that some guy hit his head during the accident and left blood on the windshield. He was nowhere to be found, so he must have ran off.

Today was a very hectic day for me. I did manage to take some pictures of some of the damage caused by the storm. Lots of it was cleaned up by the time I got off work. I even crossed some police lines that were put up for public safety to take pictures of the damage.

I may like the newer Star Treks more than the original series, but I gotta admit Scotty was a better character than the engineers on the other shows. Scotty was always my favorite of the original Star Trek crew. I always wanted to be like him. I guess I still do. He’s the kind of guy that was happy with who he was and didn’t want anything more.

He never wanted to be famous. He never wanted a command of his own. He liked being an engineer. He liked just tinkering with the engines and giving what Captain Kirk needed when the mission called for it. Even though he denies it, he was a miracle worker.

I hear James’ ashes are going to be shot into space like Gene Roddenberry’s were. It seems fitting. I wish I couldn have met him at least once. I hear he’s the most likable of the actors that played on the original Star Trek.

Today I got most of it fixed. I did have to rebuild my forums. That was a pain. I think the attack was through my forum. If so, it was my fault. I was too lazy to update my forum when someone mentioned somehting about a security hole.

On a semi-related note, I heard the bakery manager talking about trying to get me a raise. The thing is, I’m not done with my probation for another month. As I understand it, I get a raise when my probation’s over anyway.

Using a simple laser pointer, a few misc parts, and about 15 minutes, you can make a simple laser communicator that converts a sound source into light that travels across a room, and back into sound with very little quality loss.

This is something I want to do. I just don’t have the skills. Imagine using something like this to send data from once source to another. Just convert the 1s and 0s to sound and transmit them, then convert them back to 1s and 0s. Could work.

Everyone thought I’d cry when I cut my hair. I didn’t, but I do feel naked. I hate short hair. I feel I look wierd.

I’ve decided when I die, I want part of the flesh cut of my leg and a metal plate embedded into the bone with my name and birth and death dates. Then i want to be placed in a funeral pyre with the gifts from my loved ones. I’m not talking cremation, I want my bones to survive. Then I want my bones and the remains of the gifts put in a coffin. With me in the coffin will be a time capsule with a recording of me and some documents about who I was. That way future civilizations can benefit from my weirdness.

Took me 3 weeks to stop procrastinating and get my system up and running. After windows was reinstalled, it took me 9 hours to get Windows where I wanted it. I hope to never need to do that again.

Things like that get you kind of thinking. Makes you wonder what things would have been if they were still alive. Most of all it just makes you think about them. Jamie, if your out there, you rule!

Apparently the calls we make are routed through the server and through T1 lines. From what I overheard the server couldn’t connect with the T1 lines and Qwest couldn’t come out till tomorrow to fix it. They did what they could and couldn’t get the server working.

As much as I would have liked to stay the whole shift so my paycheck is as big as it can be, I’m happy we got sent home. I just hope the server is working Friday so I don’t have another day off.

Apparently with physics as we currently underatand it, its possible to escape this universe and enter a universe next to our own. It involves wormholes (sometimes called Einstein-Rosen bridges) to travel from one to the other. The article also goes into detail about making artificial wormholes in case we cant find one to use.

Another idea would include a web browser cartridge that connects to a wifi (802.11) network and you can surf the net and use the stylus like one would a mouse. Would be cool to have Mozilla DS. I hear they are actually working on something like this though.

I’m going to get a DS eventually. Then I’ll give or sell my Gameboy Advance to my sister. My only problem is the fact it wont play Gameboy or Gameboy color games. I’ll have to pick up a Gameboy Color to play my old games. Who knows maybe somewhere down the line someone will make an adapter to play them on the DS.

Speaking of Grand Theft Auto, I have a few things to say on that game. We all have thought of commiting crimes. We’ve all jay walked. We’ve all littered. Some of us even have stolen things. In the GTA games we can do much more than that. For most people it gets those thought out of our heads in a safe non-illegal way. For some people they blame their crimes on the games. I personally think that those people would have done the crimes anyway without the games. Sure, the games may desensitize us when it comes to crimes, but I’m personally desensitized from watching the news. I hear about crimes and murder all the time on the news. Personally I think the evening news is more violent than any video game. That violence is REAL.

If light has mass, wouldn’t light go right through an “intangible” person. That would effectively render them invisible and blind. Wouldn’t it? I mean light wouldn’t bounce off them to be reflected back to our eyes. And they would be blind because reflected light would pass right through their eyes.

One could go one step further and ask if they would still exist at this point. Unless they did have a way to become solid again, light wouldn’t touch them. So would they exist anymore?

Ragnarok “Doom of the Gods”, also called Gotterdammerung, means the end of the cosmos in Norse mythology. It will be preceded by Fimbulvetr, the winter of winters. Three such winters will follow each other with no summers in between.

To me that sounds like some kind of nuclear winter.

Conflicts and feuds will break out, even between families, and all morality will disappear. This is the beginning of the end. The wolf Skoll will finally devour the sun, and his brother Hati will eat the moon, plunging the earth darkness.

Sounds like darkness caused by either ash from an asteroid impact or the debris from a nuclear blast.

The stars will vanish from the sky. The cock Fjalar will crow to the giants and the golden cock Gullinkambi will crow to the gods. A third cock will raise the dead. The earth will shudder with earthquakes, and every bond and fetter will burst, freeing the terrible wolf Fenrir.

Impact of an asteroid or nuclear blast.

The sea will rear up because Jormungand, the Midgard Serpent, is twisting and writhing in fury as he makes his way toward the land.

Melting of the polar ice caps because of the ash of debris holding in the Earths heat.

With every breath, Jormungand will stain the soil and the sky with his poison.

The air and ground with lots of ash or radiation.

The waves caused by the serpent’s emerging will set free the ship Naglfar, and with the giant Hymir as their commander, the giants will sail towards the battlefield. From the realm of the dead a second ship will set sail, and this ship carries the inhabitants of hell, with Loki as their helmsman. The fire giants, led by the giant Surt, will leave Muspell in the south to join against the gods. Surt, carrying a sword that blazes like the sun itself, will scorch the earth.

Sounds to me like the flash caused by nuclear explosion.

Meanwhile, Heimdall will sound his horn, calling the sons of Odin and the heroes to the battlefield. From all the corners of the world, gods, giants, dwarves, demons and elves will ride towards the huge plain of Vigrid “battle shaker” where the last battle will be fought. Odin will engage Fenrir in battle, and Thor will attack Jormungand. Thor will victorious, but the serpent’s poison will gradually kill the god of thunder. Surt will seek out the swordless Freyr, who will quickly succumb to the giant. The one-handed Tyr will fight the monstrous hound Garm and they will kill each other. Loki and Heimdall, age-old enemies, will meet for a final time, and neither will survive their encounter. The fight between Odin and Fenrir will rage for a long time, but finally Fenrir will seize Odin and swallow him. Odin’s son Vidar will at once leap towards the wolf and kill him with his bare hands, ripping the wolf’s jaws apart. Then Surt will fling fire in every direction. The nine worlds will burn, and friends and foes alike will perish. The earth will sink into the sea.

Fire similar to the one that’s said to have covered the Earth with the asteroid that caused the dinosaurs to become extinct.

After the destruction, a new and idyllic world will arise from the sea and will be filled with abundant supplies. Some of the gods will survive, others will be reborn. Wickedness and misery will no longer exist and gods and men will live happily together. The descendants of Lif and Lifthrasir will inhabit this earth.

The survivors of the war or astreroid impact.
