New beta of WP-Translate.

WP-Translate
Here’s the new beta of the plugin. I need a few testers before it becomes an official release. It includes a link back to english. That’s a feature everyone requested. It also doesn’t break when you try a different language when already translated.

Hi Scott,
I tried to use this plugin, but as I novice perhaps I am doing something wrong. I have uploaded the file to the plugins folder. I activated the plugin from my plugin management page of my blog. But nothing shows up. I also added the script in the sidebar.php file and replaced 2 for n to have the flags horizontally placed. And nothing. Can you suggest something that I might have missed?
Thanks!
PS. I only uploaded the france and spain graphics and the wp-translate file. That wouldn’t have anything to do with my issue, right? Then again, if I uploaded incorrectly, then the plugin wouldn’t have shown up for activation in my plugin management page, right?

Try uploading all the graphics and make sure <?php translate(2); ?> is in your template.

I am using this beta version, and it looks it is working fine on Firefox. I have made a little change on the last line to put on a translation from Chinese to English, which suits my blog. Thanks for the nice plugin.

[...] This Plug in It uses the Google translation machine for some languages and the Alta Vista translation machine for some other languages. Not all languages are working yet as the Alta Vista links seem not entirely in order, but Scott is developing a »newer version… will be continued [...]

I am experimenting with the older version now.
Thanks for the work.
I notice however that on this page the altavista links also do not seem to work. Correct?

Love the plugin… however, every time I view another page other than the index page, the flag gifs all turn into text. Why is this happening?
I’m a bit of a noob, so any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the great plugin. It works as it should in Firefox 2.0 but not in IE7.

I prefer the Google translator to the Altavista one but in this version all links go to Altavista - which doesn’t work in Avant (haven’t tried anything else, but since the specific readers I’m installing this for are IE users, that’s a problem for me).
Is there some way I can hack v2 so that a) it doesn’t lose the flag images on all the non-homepage-pages, and b) it actually translates the current URL rather than the index page?

I’m working with some friends to try to figure out what the problems are.

Interesting idea. But looking at the Dutch translation the translations as such are rather bad. But I suppose that goes for any automatic translation.
PS. I’ve commented on your blog, are you happy now?

Scott,
I installed version 2 and have it working but there are a couple of issues you might be interested in. It seems the wp-translate.php file must be installed at wp-content/plugins and this file expects the images files to be at wp-content/plugins/wp-translate/images.
Also the permissions on both the wp-translate.php file and the image “directory” and “gifs” have the wrong permission.

I’ve followed all instructions, including uploading then activating the plugin, and putting in my theme. Links show up such as “American/English Flag” or “Dutch Flag,” but no images, and the links simply go to an empty page and no translation. I attempted to implement Ron’s suggestions, as shown above, but that didn’t work either.

Hiya,
Just thought you would want to know that it does not work with the new version of wordpress 2.2 that was just released.
When you activate it it says ..
Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
So I am off to look for a new one, but if you do manage to see why it is not working, please let me know as I loved the old one

Works fine in 2.1.*
May 24th, 2007 at 11:47 am
Yep, dosen’t work with WP 2.2
I’ve gotten a few visitors from foreign searches because of the translator. (And it was cool seeing my site in Korean! ^_^)

Are you planning to releases a WP-Translate plug-in compatible with Wordpress 2.2? Your plug-in brought in a lot of foreign traffic for my site, but I’ve been forced to upgrade and I’m looking forward to getting that traffic back.

Hello Scott, Excellent Blog!.
I have also installed WordPress 2.2, I´d like to use your plugin, when will you make an upgrade?, Widget Capabilities would be fantastic.

Scott,
Your plugin is fantastic! The visitors see other sites in translated format when they are redirected from my blog. keep me informed when there is any new updates. Great job!
