It’s been a while since I last posted. I need to post more often. I’m posting articles over on Templates For All, my main site, but not here.

Well first up, I got a promotion yesterday at work. I have mixed feelings about this. I am happy I got the promotion because it means more money and hours. But the supervisor we had had to get demoted for it to happen. I feel bad about that. He had one bad day and had to pay for it. Apparently he had a few mistakes I didn’t know about. A supervisor in Miami got fired for mistakes, so I guess demotion is better. I need to be careful to not make those mistakes.

A couple weeks ago, my step-mom was murdered. Supposedly she was to retire in January and my dad and her were going to retire out here in Tucson. Now as soon as the life insurance goes through to cover the funeral and burial my dad will move down here were 2 out of the 3 of us kids are.

About the blog, I’m planning on posting more content on a more regular basis. I’m going to try to post something at least once a week. I have some ideas about revisiting the most popular post on the site. My post about the full moon causing strange behavior seems to get a huge spike of traffic every (Yep! You guessed it!) full moon.

Also, I’m currently working on a new blog theme that comes complete with a new look for both the about me page and the homepage. I based the homepage on the theme I did for the Gatecast Podcast site. That’s another project I need to get involved with again, the show was my idea and I was one of the original hosts.

I’m discontinuing WP-Translate

I don’t have the time I once had. I’ve decided to discontinue WP-Translate. I should have announced this earlier. I just don’t have the time or desire to continue with the plugin. Others have made a nice ajax translation plugin.

I haven’t been working on the plugin lately. I recently moved from Arizona to Virginia. I haven’t had much time. I’ve been trying to catch up with emails I’ve received and reading blog comments.

I’ve gotten a few emails regarding the beta not working on Internet Explorer. I’m aware of that, I just can’t figure out why IE isn’t asking for referrer information from the plugin.

I’ve also received a few emails and blog comments regarding the newest version of WordPress. I know the plugin isn’t working with it. I haven’t investigated it yet.

Another thing, I received an email from a sysadmin for a hosting company. It appears the plugin is causing some problems.

Hi,

I am the sysadmin for a hosting company in the UK and we are seeing severe problems at the moment caused by the wp-translate plugin. After tracing the process, I was able to determine that Google was rejecting the connection. The plugin was then going into an infinite loop continuously trying to connect to Google and failing every time. This would only end when our webserver software was forcibly terminating the process for going over the sandbox limits.

So far the only way we can prevent this is to disable the plugin completely. This probably wouldn’t be as much of a problem if it wasn’t for Google attempting to also index the website and requesting translations of every single page on the site…

Just thought you should know. We will be informing all our customers using the plugin that we are disabling it and to check your site for updates. Ideally, in the case of a failure by the translation engine it should just gracefully die instead of trying to kill the webserver

New beta of WP-Translate.

Here’s the new beta of the plugin. I need a few testers before it becomes an official release. It includes a link back to english. That’s a feature everyone requested. It also doesn’t break when you try a different language when already translated.

I have had a little bit of free time lately. I’ve been working on a new beta of the plugin. I’ll probably test it a little more before releaseing it to the public for testing. I want to make sure it works with no problems on my end before I release it. Look for it sometime before Wednesday.

Return of FastBanner?

Lately, I’ve been thinking of going back to develop FastBanner. If I do, I’ll try to find a few developers to make it the best it can be. First I need to finish redesigning the interface for it so its XHTML Strict. That means I’m going to do away with tables. After thats dont I’ll put it on my main site and then set about finding some developers.

WP-Translate 3 Beta

Anyone want to test a beta of the next version of WordPress Translate? I know it works on my blog, but I don’t know if it’ll work on yours. I’ve gotten complaints on the other versions being broken on others blogs. Go ahead, download and test it for me before I make it an official release.

Templates For All v4.0 is almost done. I had to start all over because my host went down and wasnâ€™t working right when it went back up. I tried to fix it with my backups but nothing worked, so I dumped the older version of my site back up.

If anyone has any ideas for some more website tools drop me a line. Also, I’m thinking of adding a section with tutorials and promotion articles and stuff.

New version of WP-Translate

I updated WP-translate. I’ve had people asking for the ability to make it display vertically or horizontally. It now has that ability.

UPDATE: I have been notified of the image path being incorrect when the blog isn’t at the root of a domain. I have fixed it so it should work with blogs in subdirectories of websites.

I need some search engine optimization

I just finished writing a plugin to translate a WordPress blog to any language that Google can translate to. I didn’t have a use for it really. Not many people read my blog. I just wanted something to do.

Templates For All HACKED!

Well the other day I got online and went to check on the forums for my website. When I got there I noticed a message saying, “skull_crasher was here…” on every index.html and index.php file.

Today I got most of it fixed. I did have to rebuild my forums. That was a pain. I think the attack was through my forum. If so, it was my fault. I was too lazy to update my forum when someone mentioned somehting about a security hole.
